When Did Jesus Become King?

Watchtower answer:
In AD 1874 (taught by the Watchtower for 60 years then changed to 1914).

Jesus was granted still more authority in 1914. In that year he was appointed as King of Jehovah’s Messianic Kingdom.” WT Library 2009, All Publications, Books, “My Followers” (cf) 2007, chap. 18 p.185, para. 8

Question: How could Jesus be given more authority 1914, when He already had all authority before His ascension?

Answer: Jesus didn’t got more authority/power in 1914 according to Scripture.

Matt 28:18 And Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit. NWT

Bible answer:
Jesus Christ was born King (Matt 2:2), Jesus said He was King (Matt 27:11), His disciples recognized Him as King (John 1:49) Jesus said He had all power in both heaven and earth (Matt 28:18), said His Kingdom was heavenly (not yet on earth) (John 18:36), and said He would come in His Kingdom before His disciples would die (Matt16:28)-He came in great power and glory at the start of His Kingdom on earth at Pentecost when the Spirit of God was poured out among men and 3000 souls were saved.

Matt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Matt 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.Jesus is King

John 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

1Tim 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. KJV

1Tim 6:14 that you observe the commandment in a spotless and irreprehensible way until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 This [manifestation] the happy and only Potentate will show in its own appointed times, [he] the King of those who rule as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords. NWT

Matt 16:18 & 28 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

Pentecost was the event that started the church as Christ had prophesied to His disciples in the gospel accounts listed above. Christ’s Second Advent will occur, as scheduled in Revelation 19 when He returns bodily with His host to prevent Israel’s annihilation at the end of the seven-year Great Tribulation period (which has not yet occurred) and this event begins His literal 1000-year reign on the earth. It is the Spirit of Christ in all saved people that represents His invisible presence. This is how Christ reigns as King in His present Kingdom.

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Note: One can only conclude that the Watchtower’s claim that Christ came in His Kingdom in 1874 or 1914 is false, therefore making void all the claims of Watchtower leaders that they are the “faithful and discreet slave” of Matthew 24.

What is your authority? Is the Scripture alone your authority? If it is, then you must believe that Christ was born King and came in His Kingdom before His disciples died.

Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world (1 John 4:1 The Watchtower’s New World Translation [NWT]).
