Just recently a kingdom hall elder spoke on the topic The How-Much-More-So Logic and used the Watchtower book, Come My Followers (chap. 11, p. 117, par. 20)as his reference with Matt 6:26 to present his point:
NWT Matt 6:26 Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still YOUR heavenly Father feeds them. Are YOU not worth more than they are?
The elder gave an example that went something like this: When you are going door-to-door, ask this question: Would you burn your childs hand to punish him? Most likely the answer will always be, No. Then ask if they think that our Heavenly Father is greater than they are. Most likely the answer will always be, Yes. So then ask, How much more so would ourHeavenly Fathernot punishHis childrenby burning them with fire?
This is the Watchtowers so-called, how much more so logic. Here is the exact quote from paragraph 20 mentioned above: What loving father would punish his child by holding his childs hand in a fire? How much more must the very idea of hellfire be repugnant to our loving heavenly Father! Then the God is love verses are quoted as proof-texts to vindicate this idea. The Watchtowers use of this kind of logic is just an attempt to bring God down to mans level and way of thinking.
God has reminded us both in the Old Testament and the New Testament that He is a consuming fire and the punishment, as inflicted by Him, is awful and overwhelming:
Deut 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
Here are some examples of God punishing people with fire and all the pain and torment thatgoes along with being burned alive. God is no respecter of persons!
